The 10 Truths About Book Publishing You Have To Know Before Writing a New Book

As 2013 started I’ve planned to create and publish more ebooks, courses, other digital stuff and also to enter the music producing scene with one project. Today I’ve discovered in one of the newsletters I follow – The Laptop Millionaire a great to share article about
“The 10 Awful Truths About Book Publishing” written by Steven Piersanti, President of Berrett-Koehler Publishers. I’ve found it inspirational to know the state of market which of course doesn’t mean to stop in any way the creative flow:

1. The number of books being published in the U.S. has exploded.

“Bowker reports that over one million (1,052,803) books were published in
the U.S. in 2009, which is more than triple the number of books published
four years earlier (2005) in the U.S.

More than two thirds of these books are self-published books, reprints
of public domain works, and other print-on-demand books, which is where
most of the growth in recent years has taken place. In addition, hundreds
of thousands of English-language books are published each year in other
countries.

2. Book industry sales are declining, despite the explosion of books published.

Book sales in the U.S. peaked in 2007 and then fell by nearly five percent
between 2007 and 2009, according to the Association of American
Publishers. Similarly, bookstore sales peaked in 2007 and have fallen since,
according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The major bookstore chains have
been especially hard hit, with a 12 percent sales decline between 2007
and 2009.

3. Average book sales are shockingly small, and falling fast.

Combine the explosion of books published with the declining total sales and
you get shrinking sales of each new title. According to Nielsen BookScan
– which tracks most bookstore, online, and other retail sales of books
(including Amazon.com) – only 282 million books were sold in 2009 in the
U.S. in all adult nonfiction categories combined. The average U.S. nonfiction
book is now selling less than 250 copies per year and less than 3,000 copies

Ce senzatii mi-a produs noua clasa A de la Mercedes

Nu sunt un specialist in auto, adica nu analizez in amanunt motoare, roti, facilitati, facelifts, consum si altele. Dar filtrul meu consta in cateva elemente: cum arata masina, cum se conduce, cat de silentioasa este si ce emotii imi produce respectiv cat de bine ma simt in ea. Anul acesta am testat mai multe masini decat in ultimii zece ani la un loc si am ajuns la niste concluzii interesante. De exemplu la Mazda CX5 am avut feeling-ul ca ma aflu la volanul unei masini mici si ieftine (desi este un SUV apreciat iar pretul sare bine de 30 k eur), mi-a placut foarte tare demarajul de la noul Renault Megane diesel dupa ce am fost dezamagit de Fluence pe benzina si am fost cucerit de-a dreptul de noul ML de la Mercedes, Land Cruiser de la Toyota si de Suv-ul Infinity.

Sambata dimineata am vrut sa fiu foarte exigent si sa imi testez simturile. Dimineata m-am dat cu un Jaguar XF si mi-a placut inclusiv cum franeaza la coborarea de pe pod (persoana din dreapta si-a amintit la acel moment ca nu are asigurare de viata) dupa care imediat am dat curs invitatiei prietenilor de la Auto Klass Pipera de a participa la lansarea noii clase A de la Mercedes Benz si sa particip la un drive test. Deci am amintit mai sus filtrele mele: masina este extrem de silentioasa, m-am simtit intr-o masina dintr-o clasa superioara, atat design-ul interior cat si exterior sunt impecabile si m-am simtit excelent la volanul ei. The top 7 challenges on the road to wealth

Yesterday I watched a webinar presented by Kerwin Rae about the top 7 challenges on the road to wealth. Kerwin Rae is a businessman, coach, mentor, entrepreneur, author and international speaker. As one of the world’s leading business commentators and strategists for over a decade, he has coached thousands of consultants in numerous countries on business development, marketing, sales, human behaviour and entrepreneurial psychology.

As these principles are faced in one way or the other by most of achievers worldwide, I thought that it was a good idea to share them here.

Just before that a quote heard also yesterday during the webinar: “Mindsets play strange tricks on us. We see things the way our minds have instructed our eyes to see” Muhammad Yunus.

So the top 7 challenges on the road to wealth are:
1. Focus – really one of the biggest challenges is to focus on what is important, ignore shiny objects and the usual distractions;
2. Motivation – why you do what you do? what is your drive to do, achieve and grow;
3. Clarity – if your vision is not clear don’t expect that the outcomes to be like that. It can happen, but don’t be sure about this;
4. Plan – you know, failing to plan means planning to fail – no more comments here;
5. Strategy – you need to follow a proven strategy to win the game;
6. Tactics – you can have the best strategy in the world but the tactics are the movements which will make things happen – you can call this the leg work;
7. Feeling like giving up – this is a big challenge when you feel like giving up just that the only way is straight forward.

Cele 13 principii ale succesului enuntate de Benjamin Franklin – de aplicat unul pe saptamana

Benjamin Franklin este considerat “Primul American” si o personaliate deosebita studiata si citata de foarte multi dintre oamenii de succes pe care ii cunosc, cu care colaborez, pe care ii urmaresc sau citesc. Despre el, mai multe pe Wikipedia aici.

Am regasit aceste 13 principii ale succesului intr-o carte despre vanzari – “Cum am devenit expert in vanzari” a lui Frank Bettger si m-am gandit ca este momentul sa scriu despre ele pe blog. Benjamin recomanda ca aceste principii sa fie aplicate unul pe saptamana ceva gen tema acestei saptamani este … timp de 13 saptamani si apoi sa o iei de la inceput. Sfatul meu este sa adaptezi aceste principii la scenariul tau de viata iar la sfarsitul articolului voi scrie despre cum le-a adaptat Frank in viata lui. Deci:

1. Cumpatarea – nu manca pana la ingreunare si nu bea pana la ametire;

2. Linistea – nu spune decat ceea ce ar putea folosi  altora sau tie; evita conversatiile marunte;

3. Ordinea – lasa toate lucrurile pe care le ai la locul lor; acorda fiecarei parti a ocupatiei tale timpul ei;

4. Hotararea – fii hotarat sa faci ceea ce trebuie; indeplineste fara gres ceea ce ai hotarat;

Despre noul “eu” si BETTER WAY

Astazi m-am revazut cu cineva cu care nu m-am mai intalnit de … 16 ani. Parca a fost ieri. A fost o intalnire de afaceri dar am derulat si cateva amintiri placute. Realizez din ce in ce mai mult fiindca am interiorizat aceasta informatie ca secundele, minutele in care scriu aceste randuri si in care tu le citesti nu se vor mai intoarce niciodata. Si nu spun asta cu amaraciune, nu-i dau nici o conotatie. Dar este la fel de adevarat ca atunci cand dai drumul unui pix din mana si acesta cade, deh, legea gravitatiei.

Acest blog are o audienta mai mult English decat .ro dar din fericire datorita modulului de traducere poate fi urmarit cu usurinta de aproape oricine. Recunosc ca am trait foarte multi ani intr-un soi de ignoranta in care viata avea un sens dat de ceea ce am invatat in copilarie. Am avut o copilarie minunata, de care imi amintesc cu foarte mare drag si pe care o voi retrai prin copii si nepoti over and over. Dar stiam ca este vorba de un alt sens al lucrurilor.

Acum cativa ani am facut un curs, se numea Landmark Forum si acolo am aflat pentru prima data ca pur si simplu iti poti inchide trecutul si sa te transformi intr-o persoana noua. Ideea m-a dat pe spate si am pornit pe acest drum nu pentru ca aveam chestii de uitat dar fiindca doream mai mult de la viata. Apoi am aflat ca omul are posibilitatea de a-si reprograma subconstientul si de a face modificari prin sugestii aplicate subconstientului pana la nivel de ADN. C’mon! Apoi am intalnit numeroase carti, articole si postari pe bloguri si site-uri din care luam cate o frantura dintr-un mare puzzle care avea sa fie noul “eu”. Recunosc ca au fost unele zile in care m-am simtit ca la rehab desi cea mai chimica substanta care ajunge in corpul meu este din cand in cand Coca Cola.

Apoi am aflat ca oamenii in functie de limbajul pe care il folosesc se incadreaza intr-una din cele cinci categorii: life sucks, my life sucks, I am great, we are great si life is great. Mi-am dat seama ca nu era in regula cand ma trezeam dimineata cu o avalansa de ganduri negative in minte si ca de fapt puteam controla acest proces. De asemenea, toate cliseele despre anii care urmeaza erau niste simple sabloane oferite de mass-media si pe care mintea mea subconstienta le preluase si-mi crease o zona de confort. Chestiile citite in carti care initial pareau science fiction erau de fapt reale. Noul eu iti permite sa fii, faci si ai absolut tot ceea ce iti doresti, doar sa fii dispus sa platesti pretul pentru a ajunge acolo. Continue reading “Despre noul “eu” si BETTER WAY”
