The market is dominated by white wines, but the red ones increase in prefferences of customers and the dry ones are more and more requested than the sweet ones.
In 2007, the good brands kept 80% from the market from the valoric sales point of view, the rest being owned by the table ones according with the company Memrb Iri quoted by Capital.ro. From the volume in sales poin of view, the table wines gathered 50.3% from the market. The wines bottled at 0.7/ 0.75 l had 71.5% from the market being followed by the 2 liter pet. The B2B sales in Horeca market (hotels/ restaurants/ catering companies) represented 19.2% from the market, in the mean time, the supermarkets, hypermarkets and other shops having a market share of 80.8%.
The internal wine market in 2007 arrived at the value of 450 mil. euros and the expected growth for 2008 is of 10%. .
In 2007, Murfaltlar, one of Romania’s most important wine producers sold 20 mil. bottles, the biggest sellers being rhe brands “Lacrima lui Ovidiu” and “Conu Alecu”.
Cotnari, another producer very well known in the market had in 2007 a turnover of 24.5 mil euros selling 10.5 mil bottles of wine, the biggest sellers being the brands “Dealul Catalina”, “Feteasca Alba” and “Tamaioasa Romaneasca”. A growth until 28 mil euros is expected in 2008.
Another producer, Jidvei has a turnover increase of 13% in 2007 in comparison with 2006 and budgeted for 2008 a turnover of 30 mil euros. The company sold in 2007 9.6 mil bottles of wine , the best seller being the brand Dry Muscat de Jidvei.
The Romanians also preffer imported wines, the growth of imports year on year being substantial.
