Life In KL, City Of Contrasts

“I wander through the jungle on narrow paths,” writes Correspondent Wendy Justice, “enjoying the thousand shades of green. Monkeys chatter nearby, making themselves heard over the ever-present hum of a billion insects. “The trail meanders down the hill, revealing hardwood trees with elaborate roots and rock-hard trunks. As I reach the end, I turn to the right and continue walking. Not 15 minutes later, I step into the air conditioning of the world’s tallest twin towers. “What other city offers the startling contrasts so common in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital? The ultra-modern city center, with dozens of skyscrapers, overlooks Kampung … Continue reading Life In KL, City Of Contrasts

Entrepreneurial Instincts

I was talking with a friend last night about a billionaire entrepreneur who started two companies. He sold his first one for $600 million. He sold the other for $750 million. That’s no coincidence. So called “serial entrepreneurs” have some common entrepreneurial instincts that set them apart from the average business owner. These entrepreneurs assess business opportunities with a natural instinct. Here are just two of these instincts (they’re closer to sicknesses, really!). Compare yourself; do you possess them?: The Due-Diligence Instinct: Natural, instinctive entrepreneurs have an innate tendency to assess businesses constantly. As customers or observers they’ll run random … Continue reading Entrepreneurial Instincts

EA Sports Active vs. Wii Fit: Which is the biggest loser?

As one of the most successful video games over the past decade, Wii Fit is a genuine phenomenon. Now the sports game experts at EA have released their own fitness title, EA Sports Active: Personal Trainer, which boasts a greater focus on cardiovascular training and traditional workouts. We spent a weekend with the new game, but what does it offer for Wii Fit fans? The chief difference you’ll see is that EA Sports Active doesn’t include anything comparable to the balance and yoga games in Wii Fit. You’re here to get moving, increase your heart rate, and burn calories. The … Continue reading EA Sports Active vs. Wii Fit: Which is the biggest loser?

PS3 bested by older brother

According to official April figures released by the NPD Group, the Playstation 3 found itself beaten out for fifth place by an unusual competitor: its predecessor, the Playstation 2. A 50% leap in Playstation 2 sales accounts for the surprising change, an increase likely prompted by the system’s price cut on April 1, a move which apparently electrified interest in the nine-year old platform. The PS2’s success was probably the only nugget of April sales news to put smiles on the faces of Sony execs. Nintendo platforms continued their lockdown of the top spots, with the Wii coming second and … Continue reading PS3 bested by older brother

The Royal Wii

The Nintendo Wii has positioned itself as the gaming console for everybody. As it turns out, that includes the Queen of England. Well, sort of. It’s not like Her Royal Highness went down to Wal-Mart and bought one with her summer job savings. Rather, she was given a special version by gaming company THQ. What makes the Queen’s “Royal Wii” different? It’s gold-plated, sucka! None of that lame white plastic for Buckingham Palace — the Queen needs her bling! Gaming blog Joystiq reports that the gaming company is hopeful that the PR stunt “will amuse Queen Elizabeth.” Meanwhile, Geek.com writes … Continue reading The Royal Wii

Borrowing to buy overseas … this is what you have to know

Nowhere in the world has it ever been as easy to borrow money to buy real estate as it has been in the United States of America over the past decade. You could borrow more than the cost of the property you were buying, even, with a fixed rate of interest and a nice, long repayment term. During this time, as a result, the easiest way for an American to source capital to purchase real estate anywhere in the world has been to borrow it at home. Pull equity out of his U.S. property. Or simply find some U.S.-based outfit … Continue reading Borrowing to buy overseas … this is what you have to know

In primul interviu acordat presei economice din Romania in ultimii trei ani, Ion Tiriac spune ca nu il intereseaza ce avere are, ca nu intentioneaza sa vanda niciun pachet de actiuni din afacerile sale si ca cel mai puternic val al crizei economice va lovi in toamna.
